Until we can snap our fingers and be at our destination, flying to our destination is inevitable and likely the most stressful and boring part of your EF Ultimate Break journey. Here are our top tips for smooth flying:
- Check Passport and Visa Requirements: Ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended return date, and check visa requirements for your destination well in advance. Apply for any necessary visas and permits in a timely manner to avoid last-minute complications.
- Arrive Early: Arrive at the airport early to allow ample time for check-in, security screening, and navigating the terminal. International flights typically require passengers to check in at least 2-3 hours before departure, so plan accordingly to avoid any last-minute rush or stress.
- Dress Comfortably: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for your flight, as you may be sitting for long periods of time. Dress in layers to accommodate changes in temperature onboard the plane and consider bringing a travel pillow and blanket for added comfort during sleep.
- Be Flexible and Patient: flight delay or cancellation can happen and are one of the most frustrating parts of traveling! Contact the airline's customer service as soon as possible to explore your options. Be patient, courteous and firm when speaking to airline representatives as they are the ones responsible for getting you to your destination. Ask the airline about rebooking options such as alternative flights and rerouting. The goal is to get to your destination as close to your original arrival time as possible. - Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water before and during your flight to stay hydrated, as the dry cabin air can lead to dehydration. Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and caffeinated beverages, as they can exacerbate dehydration and disrupt your sleep patterns.
- Stay Entertained: Bring along entertainment options such as books, magazines, music, movies, or games to keep yourself occupied during the flight. Most international flights offer in-flight entertainment systems with a variety of options to choose from.
- Move Around Regularly: Combat the effects of prolonged sitting by moving around the cabin regularly and performing simple stretches or exercises in your seat. This can help improve circulation, reduce stiffness, and prevent discomfort during long flights.
- Adjust to Time Zone Differences: Prepare for jet lag by adjusting your sleep schedule a few days before your trip and staying hydrated during the flight. Upon arrival, try to adapt to the local time zone by exposing yourself to natural sunlight and avoiding naps until bedtime to help regulate your sleep patterns.
