Lost Passports while On-Tour

Sometimes we misplace some of our important items on the road in the midst of the journey that is travel! If you lose your passport while on the road, it is vital that you get it replaced so you can re-enter the U.S or Canada as well as continue moving through your multi-stop tour!

First: Retrace Your Steps

Before starting the replacement process, take a moment to retrace your steps and check if your passport can be located. If you're unable to find it, move on to the steps below.

What Is an Emergency Passport? 

An Emergency Passport is a temporary travel document issued by a U.S. or Canadian embassy or consulate. It serves as identification and allows you to continue traveling and re-enter the United States or Canada while your permanent passport is being replaced.

Steps to Replace a Lost Passport 

1. Tell your Tour Director right away. Let them know your passport is missing. If possible, work with your Tour Director to obtain a police report documenting the loss — this may be required by the embassy or consulate.
2. Contact the On Tour Support team. Call +1-617-619-1911. The team can help you locate the nearest embassy or consulate that offers emergency passport services and guide you through next steps.

3. Reach out to the embassy or consulate directly. Once a location is identified, contact them to let them know you need an Emergency Passport.

   • Find a U.S. Embassy or Consulate
   • Find a Canadian Embassy or Consulate

   If your tour includes upcoming ports of entry where you will have to provide a passport, verify with the embassy or consulate that your Emergency Passport will be accepted for entry at those locations.

4. Coordinate your visit with On Tour Support. The team will help you plan your trip to the embassy or consulate and work through any scheduling or logistical needs.

    

Some Logistical Considerations

Depending on where you are on your tour, there are a few practical things to keep in mind:

• Travel to an embassy or consulate: If there is no emergency passport facility nearby, you may need to travel to one. Any associated costs would be your responsibility, but the On Tour Support team can help you plan the logistics.

• Flight or itinerary changes: Visiting an embassy or consulate may require extending your travel or adjusting your flights. The On Tour Support team can assist with coordinating these changes. Any associated costs would be your responsibility, but may be eligible for reimbursement through your travel insurance policy.

   

If You Purchased Travel Insurance Through Go Ahead Tours 

If you purchased travel insurance through Go Ahead Tours, the On Tour Support team can send you the claim documents needed to submit a claim for any out-of-pocket expenses related to your lost passport. The claims adjustment team — which operates separately from EF — will work with you directly on your claim.
