As of January 2024, Kenya has removed their previous visa application process and instituted an Electronic Transit Authorization (eTA) requirement for US citizens. Follow this guide to help you fill out the eTA application ahead of your trip to Kenya.
How to apply
The easiest and most affordable way to apply for your eTA is through the Kenyan government website. There are other reputable sites that you can find (like our entry requirement partner, Sherpa) but these might be more expensive and require extra information that you do not need.
When to apply
In order to apply for your eTA, you'll need to supply accommodation and flight details. These will become available in your online account at approximately 30 days prior to departure. The turn around time for receiving the eTA from the Kenyan government website is only about 3 days, so applying about a month before departure is fine! The eTA is valid for 90 days from issuance, so don't apply too early
Things you'll need to apply
- Your passport
- Flight and accommodation details (a screenshot from your online account is sufficient!)
- Credit or debit card for payment
- Your smile (you'll need to upload a selfie!)
Pro tips
- If you're flying Delta, you likely won't see this as an option when you input your flight details. Check the flight number to see if your flight is being operated by another carrier (likely you'll be selecting KLM or Air France)
- While they ask for booking confirmations of all of your accommodations, a screenshot of your app's "Accommodation" page should be sufficient
